Bristol Student Accommodation Guide

Bristol as a city does what it says on the tin. As you may expect to be, you’ll be right in the epicentre of all the action with bars, restaurants, and clubs. For something a little slower paced, there’s always the vibrant St. Nicholas Market.

Student Housing in Bristol

For an up and coming area that boasts lots of new bars, the Bedminster and Southville areas are sure fire winners. Alongside these areas, there’s always the famous Tobacco Factory theatre, thanks to such a place this particular area has an exciting arts scene that continues to grow. There is better news still, in and around this area there is always some affordable housing with only a 35 minute walk from the university.

Besides these two areas, there are the areas of Bishopston and St Andrews. These two areas of Bristol boast a sizeable student population and community. Reasonable rent prices are met with large houses and sizeable flats, a perfect match. If you were to live in this area then you would expect something around a 25-40 minute walk to the campus, just remember those Bristol hills can be steep.

Gloucester Road

Just a 15 minute walk away from the University campus is the area of Clifton. This area has an identity of its own with its Georgian houses, boutiques, pubs and bars. As you might expect, due to the quality of the properties in this area, prices are generally higher. On the other hand, an area that ought to incur less expense is Gloucester Road. This offers numerous independent shops, as well as bars, cafes, and restaurants.

Events for Students in Bristol

For those of you who are partial to a good film then you can rejoice, the Bristol Film festival is a great way in which to soak in some fantastic cinematic offerings. This iconic event is held over three days in renowned venues across Bristol and takes place on March 11th-13th.

Motion Nightclub

Bristol also has a healthy and rich music scene. This is thanks to things such as Dot to Dot festival, this is held in the centre of the city sometime during May. The line-up this year boasted artists and bands such as: Temper trap, Rat Boy, and The Mystery jets. For those who prefer something with more of a classic feel there’s The Bristol Ska and MOD Festival. This festival takes place at the Motion nightclub and showcases the best of Bristol’s ska and mod DJs. Also so far the bill comprises of The Beat, From The jam, The Lambrettas, and many more. As if this wasn’t enough, the let’s Rock Bristol event features huge names in music, again in and around Bristol on the Ashton Court Estate. So far on the bill there are names such as UB40 and Jason Donovan.

Bars and Clubs in Bristol

The bars and clubs of Bristol are just like the city itself, there’s always variety and something to suit anyone. Whether it be a quiet drink, or night-out to remember then you’ll find the answer in Bristol, no doubt about that…

If you’re after something a little more exclusive then PRYZM should be the place for you. Situated on Canons Road this venue is home to three dance areas, a signature Belvedere bar, and a pre-club cocktail bar. The club is open Thursday to Saturday. PRYZM provides an eclectic mix of EDM, House, RnB, and Hip-Hop thought its nights. For those who want a piece of music heritage then Lakota will be the place. Now around 27 years old, and one of the best music venues in Bristol this is the place for some original drum and bass and Techno.

Thekla Venue

 

For something truly out there, Thekla will be perfect. Admired by both Indie and Dance aficionados alike this place is where you want be for cheap drink offers and good music. Still you haven’t heard the best of it, Thekla is probably the only club you’ve heard of that own their own boat! In fact Bansky’s famous grim reaper was painted on the hull until it had to be removed for preservation. Another club with a personality of its own would be Timbuk2. This club offers a cavernous atmosphere as it’s quite literally, underground. With three music rooms, and two bars it’s sure to please almost anyone.
